We have gathered a few of the most common questions people have when trying to see if this site fills a need for them. If you have questions that aren't on this list, feel free to drop us a note at support@letshelp.us.

What sort of applications can this be used for?

The application this was designed for was to help families with chronic care needs such as when a family member has cancer.

However, other people are using it or have suggested it for other applications.

  • Organizing a political campaign
  • Organizing the construction of a school playground.
  • Organizing the maintenance of a campground.

The main goal here is to organize a set of volunteers to do a set of tasks, where each volunteer is free to choose tasks based upon their interests, abilities, and time. If your application fits that model, then this site may be a good fit for your application.

This is fine, but I need XXXX before it fits my needs

Please contact us at support@letshelp.us. We may be able to show you how to use the package as is to get your job done. If not, and the feature you are requesting is of broad appeal, then we will add it to our feature request list.

If the feature you are requesting would appeal to a small fraction of our users then we will be happy to create the feature if you're willing to pay for the development.

Why are you charging for this service?

The short answer is that this service costs me in terms of money and time to operate. I also don't want to treat this as a hobby project because hobby projects don't get addressed when there are questions or the software needs new improvements. By charging, I will be forced (and compensated) for providing a service to you.

The long answer goes into more detail on this subject.

Why do we have to register and always log in to use this service?

It's always inconvenient to have to type more than you have to on the web, or to identify yourself if your view of the web is to be anonymous. However, in this case, there are two reasons we need some sort of identification.

  1. We need to know one person from another. So that way when you sign up for a task, everyone knows that the task is taken, and that it is taken by a particular person.
  2. There are two groups of users here, the volunteers and the coordinators that keep things moving. The coordinators have to know a bit more about how the package is operated, and have many more choices to make then the volunteers. Your identity puts you into one of the categories.

So some sort of identification is required. The amount of detail that is required for the coordinators to accept your application is up to your coordinators. In most cases, they want to know who they are working with, so names are in order. This package also relies upon email in order to function, so email addresses are required.
