These days, there are many free services available on the Internet,
including free email from Hotmail and Google, free web hosting,
and sometimes even free access with phone numbers.
Besides the free services, there are free programs such as Linux,
Open Office, and many others.
So why am I charging for the use of this service? After all,
the intended audience already has lots of stress on it.
Some of those free services carry advertising. I don't know
about everyone, only myself, and I really am not interested in
viewing advertising when I am trying to get something done.
So I really don't want to move in that direction.
For this package to work, it needs to have a 24x7 presence on the
web. While broadband, always on connections are more common then
they once were, they aren't universal, and most of those users whose
computers are all full time really aren't configured to be a web server.
Further, as I don't use Windows, what I have written wouldn't be applicable
to most computers anyway.
To expect that the target audience could get this package running
on their own computer, or the servers of their ISPs, is to expect
a higher level of computer experience then most users have. In addition,
they are interested in doing other things rather than working on web servers.
So I decided that the best way to distribute this was to provide it
as a service. Given that situation, I wanted it to be somewhat rewarding
for myself. If I am making money on the service, it makes it much more
interesting to answer those email messages and to continue to add features
that people use.
I do have free programs, and they get continual use. See the
Make a Wordsearch site.
Given that, I know that making time available to do upgrades
on a completely hobby basis by me is a hard thing to do. Besides the
time, of course, there is the computer, connectivity, disk space, backups,
and all of the other things that come with operating a server.
I hope I have explained why I am charging for this service, and I
sincerely hope that the service you obtain from this site is fully
worth your money.
You are welcome to try the site for a month to see if it solves a
problem you have. If not, well that's OK. If it is solving a problem
for you, then I hope you will find the price a reasonable value.
